The good news: unlike your kids, you can usually renew by mail. The rule that decides whether you qualify, and why the first thing to check is processing time, not the application itself.

You can typically renew an adult passport by mail if your most recent passport was issued when you were 16 or older, is undamaged, was issued within roughly the last 15 years, and is still in your current name. Miss any one of those, most commonly the 15-year window or a name change from marriage, and you have to apply in person instead, the same as our own kids always have to for theirs, which we cover in our child passport guide.
