Travel Itinerary: 4 DAYS IN SEATTLE with kids

We spent 4 days exploring Seattle and the surrounding towns!

Tacoma, Washington waterfront

Day 1: Fly into seattle (Seatac)

We flew into Seattle from Boston and after 6 hours of flying, we decided to spend the day relaxing with our family at their home.

Logistics: We booked our flights direct via Alaska Airlines. We have the Alaska Airlines credit card and used our points to book the flights (for only a small service fee!).

To do: There is plenty to do in the Seattle area and since we have family there, we have visited multiple times. We definitely recommend that you head to downtown Seattle and visit the much heralded Pike Place Market. There are plenty of shops there to explore - we highly recommend Pike Place Nuts. Take a spin on the Seattle Great Wheel or head up to the Space Needle for a cocktail and a beautiful view of the city.

Day 2: Tacoma, Washington

We spent the day exploring Tacoma, Washington. Tacoma is a city on the banks of the Puget Sound, only 40 minutes south of Seattle.

Point Ruston Public Market: There are over 20 vendors located here, so there is something for everyone! We grabbed tacos at Taco Street and cookies/cupcakes from Only Oatmeal Cookie Creations. Both great options!

Point Ruston Playground: You can either walk towards the water from the Point Ruston Public Market, or there is plenty of parking nearby (including a garage). There are also various restaurants and shops within the surrounding area. Point Ruston Playground is an awesome playground for the kids, right on the water. It is a “ship-themed” play area inspired by the historic Point Ruston Ferry. Our kids loved it!

Walk along the water: In addition to the market and playground, there is a beautifully paved walking path along the water. It runs all of the way down to the Dune Peninsula at Point Defiance Park. On a clear day you can see Mount Rainier!

Alki Beach in Seattle

Day 3: Seattle, Washington

We headed to Alki Beach for the day! Alki Beach is a great spot for a long scenic walk any time of year (even on a rainy winter day) and in the summer draws all walks of people looking to enjoy the sun. The water is reasonably cold - ranging from 46 to 56 degrees F (depending on season). The beach offers views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.

Logistics: Alki Beach Park is a beach strip that runs from 64th Place SW to Duwamish Head on Elliott Bay. You can find parking right along the beach.

To do: For us, it was a rainy and cold morning, but we still enjoyed running towards the water and walking on the sand along the beach. After a brief visit we stopped by a local coffee shop, West Seattle Grounds to warm up and grab a pick-me-up. We got coffee for the grownups and donuts for the kids. The donuts are provided by Good Day Donuts during the weekends.

Lattin’s Country Cider Mill and Farm

Day 4: Olympia, Washington

This was our final day in Washington. We traveled 1 hour south of Seattle to visit Lattin’s Country Cider Mill and Farm in Olympia, Washington.

Logistics: The farm is only an hour drive from Seattle, with plenty of parking on site.

To do: Once you arrive at Lattin’s, be sure to stop in to the store. They are known for their award winning Apple Cider (which we obviously took part in!). We also thoroughly enjoyed their homemade donuts. They even sell a variety of local jams, syrups, apple butter and much more!

To keep the kids engaged, you can purchase animal feed within the store and then head outside to pay a visit to all of the farm animals (only the bunny is off limits for feeding!). There were peacocks, chickens, goats and sheep. As you can imagine, they all loved seeing us show up with food. Since we went mid-week, we were the only people there and had the place to ourselves. After the kids had their share of feeding, we spent more time at both the farm play area and maze - both were big hits!

We all loved our visit here as it was a perfect activity for families. We’ll definitely be back on our next trip to Washington!

As always, live presently and travel often!
