Travel Itinerary: 4 DAYS Skiing in Park City, UT
We spent 4 days skiing and exploring the ski town of Park City!
First ski day at Park City Ski Resort
Day 1/2: Fly into Salt Lake City
We took an afternoon flight into Salt Lake City from Boston and after 6 hours of flying and getting in late, we decided to call it a night in prep for skiing the next day.
Logistics: Our flights went direct into Salt Lake - Delta on the way there and then Jet Blue on the way back (these ended up being the best flight times for us). We arranged a car rental with Turo beforehand, so we met our renter in the short term parking garage after collecting our baggage. The ride from Park City to Salt Lake takes about 45 minutes.
***I didn’t bring any ski gear except my helmet, goggles and clothes. Instead, I rented from Ski Valet Park City. I would highly recommend this service, as they dropped off my equipment (skis, poles, and boots) at the air bnb and then picked up “on-mountain” before we left. AND the cost was very reasonable.
Accommodation: We booked a perfectly located and recently renovated condo with VRBO, hosted by Park City Adventure Lodging. The exact rental (click here) was within EASY walking distance of Park City Ski Resort (2 min walk).
To do: After spending our first day skiing at Park City Mountain, we spent our late après ski lunch at The Pig Pen Saloon (great grub and much earned beer!). After a shower and rest, we headed out into Park City Village. For dinner we had a whiskey tasting and meal at High West Distillery (recommend the tacos!) and then paid a visit to the much heralded No Name Saloon for a diverse selection of local beers and very interesting interior decorations.
The Red Iguana, Salt Lake City, UT
Day 2: Salt Lake City / Park City
We decided to take our second day off and venture out to an excellent Mexican Restaurant in Salt Lake City
Logistics: We drove our Turo rental, but you could always arrange a shuttle service, if you don’t have a vehicle.
Carne Asada at the Red Iguana
To do: Our target for Salt Lake was to visit the famous Red Iguana. We enjoyed the incredible Mexican fare (I went with the Carne Asada) and a couple of margaritas. The Red Iguana is well known for it’s Mole sauces and you can ask for a sampler, if you want to try them. One important note, if there is an exceptionally long wait, or you have a large party, you can eat the same food over at the Red Iguana 2. While it isn’t the original location, it still serves the same mouthwatering food.
Before heading back to Park City, the Red Iguana is an easy jumping off point to drive around downtown Salt Lake - a cityscape surrounded by an incredibly scenic backdrop. Once back in Park City for dinner, we grabbed pub food at Flanagan’s Irish Pub and then a few drinks at The Cabin before calling it a night. The Cabin is well known for the “Elkupine” that serves as its mascot as you enter the bar.
Skiers just off the lift at Deer Valley Ski Resort
Day 3: Deer Valley Ski resort
We planned on skiing at Deer Valley Ski Resort for the day - one of the nicest resorts in North America.
Logistics: You can park for free at the resort (if you get there early enough). There is a shuttle that picks up skiers and drops them right at the lodge (Snow Park Lodge). It runs VERY regularly, so you don’t need to worry about waiting long for the next one. If you don’t have a vehicle, you can also grab the shuttle bus in Park City Village, which also drops you right at the main lodge.
THE “Elkupine” at The Cabin
To do: After a very successful (and somewhat snowy) morning, we grabbed a delicious “sit-down” lunch at Stein Eriksen’s lodge, located mid-mountain. I had the “pastrami hoagie” - HIGHLY recommend. Following a few more runs in the afternoon, we headed back to our rental to shower and put our feet up for a bit. Given that it was our last night in PC, we then ventured back out to Park City Village and paid one last visit to all of our new favorite haunts - including one last salute to the “Elkupine”.
The drive back through the canyon between Park City and Salt Lake
Day 4: Deer valley, Salt Lake and heading home
This was our final day in Utah. We enjoyed skiing Deer Valley so much that we decided to go back for round two, before flying out on the red eye that night.
Logistics: (See previous day for Deer Valley logistics). After skiing, we drove back to Salt Lake City. We chose to grab a room with points, so that we had somewhere to shower and hang out before our late flight (since we had to check out of our air bnb that morning).
Cheers from Red Rock Brewery
To do: By the time we got to Salt Lake and showered, it was time for dinner. We ventured downtown and grabbed a couple of bar seats at Red Rock Brewery, where they serve up wood fired food and their own beer. Since we stayed at the Tru Hilton property by the airport, this was a really convenient stop before the airport.
(One note…we grabbed lunch mid-mountain at Deer Valley on this day as well. We ate at the Silver Lake Restaurant, which was a “food court style” restaurant, BUT was the most elaborate food court I’ve ever been to. Highly recommend - the options are endless and of high quality.)
As always, live presently and travel often!
